Mike George has been working in ceramics since 2004. A graduate of Henry Ford College and Eastern Michigan University with an Associates in Art Foundations and a Bachelor’s in Visual Arts Education respectively, he has been teaching high school art classes since 2014. In 2014 Mike started selling his pottery under his business, Ram’s Head Craftworks. Mike and his wife, Tori, have been vending at local festivals and events since 2018 including the Michigan Nordic Fire Festival, the Wyandotte Street Fair, and the Michigan Renaissance Festival where they’ve owned a permanent booth since 2021. Mike’s work focuses primarily on wheel thrown functional wares but he’s been known to add carvings and sculptural elements to his work. Jon Van Eck is an Ann Arbor-based artist who began his life-long love affair with ceramics in 1982. He became a member of the Ann Arbor Potters Guild in 1987, but left in 1990 to raise five kids, work, and go to school. He received a BFA in Ceramics from Eastern Michigan University, and as a graduate teaching assistant taught the “Ceramics for Non-Majors” course for two semesters. Jon set up a home studio and created Van Eck Pottery & Tile Works in 2005. In 2015 & 2016, he taught workshops at the Ann Arbor Potters Guild on making extruded ceramic dies and combining extrusions with thrown objects.
