Intro to Ceramics

This course introduces students to both practical and expressive forms in clay through handbuilding and wheel throwing techniques. Students learn to make forms for multiple vessels (cups, mugs, bowls, etc) through wheel, slab and coil processes, surface decoration, glazing methods and more. There will be an opportunity for students to participate and try two additional firing techniques which produce unique surfaces to finished work. Students may repeat this course to develop a strong foundation in ceramics.

Wheel-Thrown Pottery:

Foundations & Exploration

This course is designed for both beginners and continuing students interested in wheel-thrown pottery. We’ll start by building a strong foundation in basic techniques, then apply those skills to a variety of creative projects. Students will explore wheel throwing and learn methods for altering wheel thrown objects, with projects increasing in complexity as the course progresses. We’ll also experiment with surface decoration techniques to enhance each piece. All students are encouraged to complete projects to the best of their ability. The course will include at least two specialty firings to showcase and finish your work.
