Community Outreach
The Village Potters Guild has an active Community Outreach Program, continually searching for ways to integrate our organization and our craft into public life and community organizations. Current projects include Empty Bowls, New Morning School, and Team Building activities.

Empty Bowls

Empty Bowls is a grassroots movement by artists and crafts people in cities and towns around the world to raise money for food related charities to care for and feed the hungry in their communities. Empty Bowls has raised millions of dollars to help end hunger. Village Potters Guild regularly participates in local Empty Bowls fundraisers. Most recently, we donated bowls to the "Road to Home Fundraiser" sponsored by SOS Community Services, a community-based nonprofit dedicated to preventing and ending family homelessness in Washtenaw County. Village Potters Guild members donated some beautiful work, and VPG donated bud vases originally made for our Spring Market fundraiser - we're very happy to see them continue to raise funds for a great cause. You can still donate, if you like, to help feed the hungry and house the homeless. www.soscs.org

New Morning School

Village Potters Guild supports members who provide onsite instruction to K-8 students at New Morning School in Plymouth. With the help of NMS teachers and aids, students make objects such as fish and cups, and paint them with underglaze. VPG fires them with clear glaze and returns them to the school. Here's some of the work from this past term:

Team Building Event
for Student Advocacy Center of Michigan, April 2023

We recently enjoyed hosting a staff team building event for the Student Advocacy Center of Michigan. They worked on building community, explored issues of perfectionism, and engaged in art as a healing practice. There were some insights and a lot of laughter as they played in clay, worked together, and made shakers that reference various personalities. Who says work can't be fun?!
